Valentown
What if you're a square shaped peg in a heart shaped hole?
In 2010 James and Anel put together a team of friends and entered into the first 48 Hour Film Project to be held in South Africa. Team ‘Get it Together’ garnered 7 awards (including an Audience Award and Best Film) with their short ‘Valentown’ and went on to compete internationally against the other 90 cities around the world. ‘Valentown’ made it into the top 10 '48 Hour Film' Projects world wide and for this won a screening at the Cannes Film Festival in 2011.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the 48 Hour Film Project, the name says it all. Teams get exactly 48 hours from randomly selecting a genre (and being given lines and props etc that need to feature in the end product) to write, shoot and edit a short film. The genre the team selected was: 'Romance', the line that needed to be incorporated into the script was: 'I'm gatvol (fed-up)', the character: 'Desmond Dube - Parking attendant' and the prop: 'A Soccer Ball'.
